Christmas Trees

Hyman Bloom
Every year when we put up our Christmas tree, I take a good long look at  Hyman Bloom's Christmas tree paintings.  These large paintings dance with light, magic and beauty.  Each tree has it's own color scheme and composition.  The light sources vary.  But each is a gem.  Is this the old world tree my grandmother remembers?  Is this the tree of fairy tales? Perhaps this year I will also paint a large Christmas tree painting.  I've painted a handful  on small birch panels.  But not a big one.  Who will hang a giant Christmas tree painting?  Do you store it for most of the year and then pull it out with your advent calendar?  I guess it doesn't matter.  This year there will be an ode to Hyman Bloom - with LED lights, and perhaps a few candles.

The colors in the Hyman Bloom Christmas tree seem almost to be on fire. It would be a shame that anything that beautiful would be kept in a closet for 11 months out of the year. I know people who keep their Christmas tree up all year, why not a painting of a Christmas tree?
